Mikhail Valentinovich Vanin has been appointed Director General of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs by a Presidential decree dated September 23, 2009.

M. V. Vanin was born in 1960. Higher education: graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1982. Has a command of English; possesses the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (bestowed January 10, 2006); holds the Order of Honor.

He served as Department Head and Main Department Head at the RF State Customs Committee from 1992-99. Thereafter, he was chairman of the RF State Customs Committee from 1999-2004.

Prior to posting in Slovenia as Ambassador in 2004, he had work experience at the RSFSR MFA as chief legal officer, Legal and Treaties Division, from 1990-91.

M. V. Vanin assumed charge as Director General on October 15, 2009.
