Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Administrative, financial and special questions of ensuring the work of the Ministry and its overseas agencies are within his purview in this post.

Mikhail Valentinovich Vanin has been appointed Director General of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs by a Presidential decree dated September 23, 2009.

M. V. Vanin was born in 1960. Higher education: graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1982. Has a command of English; possesses the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (bestowed January 10, 2006); holds the Order of Honor.

He served as Department Head and Main Department Head at the RF State Customs Committee from 1992-99. Thereafter, he was chairman of the RF State Customs Committee from 1999-2004.

Prior to posting in Slovenia as Ambassador in 2004, he had work experience at the RSFSR MFA as chief legal officer, Legal and Treaties Division, from 1990-91.

M. V. Vanin assumed charge as Director General on October 15, 2009.
