Consultations between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko and Director-General for Political and Security Affairs of the French MFA Jacques Audibert

On September 1 in Moscow, in preparation for the upcoming (in Paris on September 7) IX Meeting of the Russian-French Cooperation Council for Security Issues with the participation of the Foreign and Defense Ministers, consultations took place between Alexander Grushko, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Jacques Audibert, Director-General for Political and Security Affairs at the French MFA, and representatives from the defense agencies of the two countries.
They discussed issues of reforming the European security architecture in light of the Russian proposal to conclude a European Security Treaty and the initiatives of the French side, including from the vantage point of developing the partnership between Russia and the European Union.
Topical issues of cooperation in the OSCE, various aspects of Russia-NATO relations, the subject of conventional arms control in Europe, and missile defense issues were considered. The parties discussed the situation around the Iranian nuclear dossier, the state of affairs in the Middle East settlement, the conditions in Afghanistan and Pakistan and a number of other pressing international problems.
