Alexander Saltanov, Russia's Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister, Meets with Yutaka Iimura, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for the Middle East

Alexander Saltanov, Russia's Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister, received Yutaka Iimura, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for the Middle East, on March 10.

The conversation focused mainly on current conditions in the Middle East with emphasis on efforts being made to revive Palestinian-Israeli talks. Questions of practical assistance from the international community to improving the socioeconomic situation in the Palestinian territories were touched on. Yutaka Iimura briefed on the relevant Japanese initiatives, among them on progress in carrying out the plan for creating the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity involving the PNA, Israel and Jordan.

For his part, Alexander Saltanov told about the aid being provided by the Russian Federation to the PNA and about the economic assistance being made available through the Russian-Palestinian Business Council.

Both parties noted the similarity of Russia and Japan’s positions on the issues discussed and spoke out in favor of continuing a regular exchange of views on Middle Eastern themes.
