On February 5, a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

After discussing the main aspects of bilateral relations, the two parties expressed satisfaction at the existing level of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the political, trade and economic fields and declared their intention to promote its further progressive development, taking into account the available significant potential for that.

An exchange of views took place on the developments in the situation around the Iranian nuclear program. The Russian side laid special emphasis on the importance of Tehran remaining committed to the principled accords reached at the talks on this theme in Geneva on October 1, 2009 between the representatives of Iran and the six powers.
