It is with great sorrow that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that Oleg Alexandrovich Troyanovsky, a leading Soviet and Russian diplomat, departed this life on December 21.

At all the high diplomatic posts which he held, Troyanovsky showed himself as a brilliant professional and diplomat with a capital D, who gave many years of his life to upholding the interests of our country.

During, in particular, his long tenure as Permanent Representative of the USSR to the United Nations in New York and Representative to the UN Security Council, Troyanovsky did a lot to strengthen the authority and potential of the worldwide Organization in the era of the Cold War. While working as ambassador in Japan and then in China, he made an important contribution to the onward development of relations with these countries.

The Russia MFA expresses sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased.

The fond memory of Oleg Troyanovsky will always remain in our hearts.
